Comprehensive Crisis Intervention (Non-Physical) Workshops

- Sessions will continue to be held even in the event of job action.
- If a substitute teacher is granted registration in a session, they may claim the daily rate of pay from Local 38 directly (email sdf@ata38.ab.ca) for the two days they are engaged in training.
Content & Schedule
This two-day workshop provides teachers with the skills and tools necessary to cope with students that may exhibit violent or unpredictable behaviour. The workshop will delve into ten major themes:
- Introduction to Crisis Intervention
- The Learning Environment
- Understanding Ourselves
- Understanding the Student
- Understanding Crisis
- Crisis Prevention and De-escalation
- Crisis Management
- Recover and Building Skills
- Critical Crisis Response
- Debriefing and Reflecting
The schedule for each day of the workshop is as follows:
- 8:30 am to 4:30 pm each day
- 15-minute break in the morning
- 60-minute lunch break
- 15-minute break in the afternoon
- Written quiz at the end of day two (20 questions – short answer / matching / sequencing / labelling; 75% needed to pass)
Conditions
You MUST be a teacher currently employed with the Calgary Board of Education to participate in this workshop.
Each workshop has a 21-participant maximum.
Teachers eligible for employer-provided CCI training are not eligible for this workshop.
Substitute coverage will be provided for all participants for both days of the workshop. (Instructions on booking a substitute will be issued to you via email following the selection of participants.)
A complimentary lunch is provided to all workshop participants on both days of the workshop. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements via the registration form.
Event Details
- Cost: The workshop is provided free-of-charge.
- Location: The workshop is held at the offices of Calgary Public Teachers (ATA Local 38).
- Suite 340, 6815 - 8 Street NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 7H7
- Upon arrival, enter the atrium on the main floor of the building and take the EAST ELEVATOR to the third floor.
- Parking: Free parking for all participants will be available in the surface lot on the north side of the building.
- Certification: Participants who successfully complete the full 2-day workshop and pass the examination will receive CCI certification valid for two calendar years from the date training is completed.
